You can celebrate Canada 150 and still be environmentally friendly! Here are some ideas.
- Attend a Local Kick-Off Event
On New Year's Eve right across the country from coast to coast to coast are Canada 150 celebrations. These are free, feature regional musical talent, and have something for everyone! Check out the list of the 19 urban kickoff events here. In St. John's NF you can catch incredible musical talent and much more in Canada's easternmost time zone. Halifax NS claim Atlantic Canada's biggest light show, along with a diverse set of talent including first nations and Syrian immigrants. If you can't catch it in person, Eastlink is broadcasting the event. The original meeting that lead to Confederation met on Great George St. in Charlottetown, PE, and that is the centre for Canada 150 celebrations on the island.. Riverfront Park is where it is at in Moncton, NB, with Jimmy Rankin leading the musical entertainment. Joel Plaskett headlines the diverse show in Fredericton, NB. Iqaluit, Nunavut has a family friendly concert with local performers, and ends with fireworks over Frobisher Bay. In Quebec the four day Le Jour de l'An festival is wrapping up with great events. Montreal claim they will have the biggest party in the country - will they? The national capital region will be the central place to be in 2017, and New Year's Eve is a key part of that - check out the details here. Come out for a first nations welcome, a family skating party at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto, and much more. Moving to the prairies, The Forks National Historic Site will be the place in Winnipeg for music, carriage rides, skating, a parade and more. In Regina science and culture are major themes for the events. Art plays a central role in both the Edmonton and Calgary celebrations. The Calgary events will be broadcast on CTV for those unable to be there in person. Lots of sports in a family friendly environment for the celebration in Whitehorse, YK. Fireworks and fun in Vancouver, BC! It will be a really big party at the inner harbour in Victoria, BC with music, light show, a harbour ferry ballet and more.
